White suckers are a common, widely-distributed bottom-feeding fish with a distinctive downturned, fleshy mouth built for vacuuming invertebrates off the bottom. They're not a prized gamefish, but they are genuinely caught - often incidentally on bottom baits like worms - and are a traditional target during their spring spawning runs up tributary streams, when they gather in large, easily-caught numbers and are sometimes harvested for smoking or as cut bait for larger predators.
