How to fish for tiger muskellunge

Tiger muskellunge are a naturally-occurring-but-usually-stocked hybrid of muskellunge and northern pike, prized as a hard-fighting trophy that grows fast and, being sterile, puts all its energy into size rather than reproduction. They're fished essentially like muskie and pike combined: large bucktails, glide baits, big jerkbaits, and sizeable swimbaits worked near weed edges, drop-offs, and rock structure, always with a wire or heavy fluorocarbon leader since - like both parent species - their teeth cut light line instantly. The figure-8 at boatside applies here too; a following fish often commits only at the last second right beside the boat. Tigers are frequently described as more aggressive and slightly easier to trigger than pure-strain muskellunge, which makes them a popular stocked trophy in waters managed for big predators. As with muskie, they're most active around dawn, dusk, and stable weather, and a large net plus fast, careful handling and release meaningfully improves a big fish's odds given the toll a long fight takes.
