Striped bass are a large, powerful, open-water predator - anadromous in their native coastal range and established as a landlocked sport fishery in some inland systems - prized for their size and hard-pulling fight, though they're a limited and localized presence in this region. Where a fishery exists, they roam in schools chasing baitfish, so covering water and locating feeding fish matters: casting or trolling large swimbaits, spoons, and minnow-imitating plugs, or drifting live bait like large minnows, are standard approaches. They feed most actively in low light and often push schools of baitfish to the surface in feeding frenzies that give away their location.
