How to fish for smallmouth buffalo

Smallmouth buffalo are a large native sucker of warm rivers and lakes, more of a bottom-feeder than the plankton-eating bigmouth buffalo, rooting invertebrates and mollusks off the bottom with a small, downturned mouth. They can reach substantial size and are taken mainly by bowfishers and occasionally on bottom baits, fighting hard when hooked. Like other buffalo they tolerate warm, turbid water. On a location page, smallmouth buffalo are a large native rough fish of warmer waters - part of the big-bodied bottom community rather than a conventional angling target.
