How to fish for new world silversides
New World silversides are a family of small, slender, surface-oriented schooling fish - the group that includes the brook silverside - that skim the top of the water in clear lakes and slow rivers, feeding on tiny insects and plankton. They're forage fish, not rod targets: too small and surface-bound to catch on conventional tackle, but an important part of the diet of bass, pike, and other predators, and their surface-schooling sometimes gives away where gamefish are pushing bait. On a location page their significance is as a forage-base indicator rather than as a species to fish for.
