Longnose sucker are a common, cold- and cool-water bottom-feeder with the distinctive downturned, fleshy mouth of the sucker family, built for vacuuming invertebrates off the bottom. They aren't a prized gamefish, but they're genuinely caught - often incidentally on bottom baits like worms - and are a traditional target during their spring spawning runs up tributary streams, when they gather in accessible numbers and are sometimes harvested for smoking or cut bait. They lean toward colder, cleaner water than the closely-related white sucker.
