How to fish for goldfish

Goldfish are a small, hardy, introduced cyprinid - the same species kept in bowls and ponds - that has established feral populations in warm, weedy, often degraded waters after aquarium and pond releases, where their tolerance of low oxygen and poor conditions lets them persist and spread. Wild goldfish are typically dull olive or bronze rather than bright orange, and they hybridize with common carp. They aren't a real sport target; they're caught incidentally on bottom baits and are regarded as an undesirable non-native. On a location page, goldfish are best read as a sign of a warm, degraded, or altered system and an invasive presence rather than a species to fish for.
