How to fish for goldeye

Goldeye are the mooneye's close relative, a silvery, large-eyed fish of turbid prairie and northern rivers and lakes, more tolerant of murky water than the clear-water mooneye. They feed on insects, small fish, and invertebrates near the surface and through the water column, and will take small flies, spinners, and bait - a genuine if minor light-tackle target that fights well. They're notably prized as a smoked delicacy, the famous 'Winnipeg goldeye'. On a location page, goldeye are both an occasional light-tackle catch and a forage species of larger, often turbid waters.
