How to fish for golden redhorse

Golden redhorse are a common, moderately-sized sucker of clear and gently-turbid rivers and larger streams, with the reddish fins and downturned mouth typical of the redhorse group. They aren't a prized gamefish but are caught incidentally on bottom baits and pursued by some anglers during their spring spawning runs into shallow gravel. Like the other redhorse they feed by rooting invertebrates off the bottom and generally favor reasonably clean, oxygenated water. On a location page their significance is ecological: they're a forage species for large predators and a reasonable indicator of decent river health, rather than a target most anglers seek out.
