How to fish for fantail darter

Fantail darter are a small bottom-dwelling darter of clean, shallow riffles, where males guard clusters of eggs laid on the undersides of flat stones. Like other darters they hop along the bottom in oxygen-rich flowing water and feed on tiny invertebrates. They aren't a rod target - they're a forage fish and an indicator of clean, well-oxygenated riffle habitat.
