How to fish for fallfish

Fallfish are the largest native minnow in the northeast, reaching a foot or more, and are large enough to be a genuine, if minor, light-tackle catch - they'll take small spinners, flies, and worms, and give a decent account on ultralight gear, even if they're not a prized species. They live in clean, cool streams and lakes, where breeding males build large gravel-mound nests. They're also a meaningful forage fish for larger predators. On a location page, fallfish are both an incidental catch for light-tackle anglers and a forage species, and their presence points to reasonably clean, cool water.
