How to fish for deepwater sculpin

Deepwater sculpin are a glacial-relict sculpin that lives in the cold, dark, deep water of large lakes - often hundreds of feet down - feeding on bottom invertebrates in some of the coldest, most oxygen-rich water a lake offers. They're never an angling target; they're a deep-water forage fish and one of the classic indicators of a cold, deep, well-oxygenated lake, sensitive enough that their presence or disappearance is used to gauge the health of deep-water habitat. They're an important food for lake trout and burbot. On a location page, a deepwater sculpin record is strong evidence of intact, cold, highly-oxygenated deep-water habitat and the coldwater predator community it supports.
