How to fish for common shiner

Common shiner are a robust, widespread shiner of clean, cool streams and lakes, one of the larger and more familiar shiners and big enough to be caught occasionally by young anglers on small baits. Breeding males develop steely-blue backs and reddish fins and spawn over gravel, often over the nests of chubs. They're primarily a forage fish - prey for bass, trout, and other predators, and a common bait minnow.
