How to fish for common carp

Common carp are a large, powerful, introduced cyprinid that has become one of the most widespread fish on the continent and, increasingly, a respected sport target - European-style carp fishing, with bait like corn, boilies, and dough fished on the bottom over a baited spot, has a devoted following, and a big carp is a genuinely hard, dogged fight. They root through soft bottoms for invertebrates and vegetation in warm, often murky water, tolerating conditions that exclude most gamefish. They're most active in warm months and feed heavily in shallow, mud-bottomed bays and flats, where their tailing and bubbling give them away. Because they're non-native and can degrade shallow habitat by stirring up sediment, many jurisdictions encourage harvest rather than release.
