How to fish for aurora trout

Aurora trout are a rare, vividly-colored subspecies of brook trout native to just a handful of lakes in northeastern Ontario, lost from their original waters to acid rain and rescued through hatchery propagation and stocking. They're fished exactly like brook trout - small spinners, worms, and wet flies in cold, clear water - but this is first and foremost a conservation success story and a strictly managed fishery, so regulations are specific, restrictive, and absolutely worth checking before targeting them. Where a legal, stocked fishery exists they behave like their brook trout parent: cold-water-loving, current-friendly, and relatively willing to strike. Their extreme sensitivity to acidified, warm, or poorly-oxygenated water is central to why they nearly vanished, making cold, clean, well-buffered water essential to their survival. This is a species to approach with real respect for its rarity and the rules protecting it, not a numbers fishery.
